Kindergarten

IHI will provide an immersive environment for children to spend the entire day in English. One native English speaker will serve as a teacher. There will also be one Japanese speaking teacher to assist the children.

One year of immersive experience will allow children to have an ear to comprehend native English. This will serve as a good transition to receive bilingual education in elementary school.

Elementary School

IHI will be an integrated elementary, junior high, and senior high school that provides Japanese language education based on the standards approved by the Ministry of Education. IHI will offer an approved overseas English curriculum, with the goal of giving children an international outlook and the option to study abroad. In the future, we hope to teach classes other than the main subject (Japanese, math, science, and social studies) in English.

Japanese homeroom teachers will conduct classes using Japanese textbooks based on the Japanese Courses of Study. English homeroom teachers will use foreign textbooks.

Students are registered at the local school, and their attendance at IHI will be counted as attendance at the local Japanese school.

Uchinada Campus

IHI is located on the upper floor of Uchinada Bible Church. There are many rooms available for students to learn from their teachers. There are also quiet rooms in the building for students to study and do homework on their own.

The school property is located very near the beach so students can enjoy a walk down quiet walkways or the beach. The school is blessed to have several parks nearby so the children can enjoy running outside.

Uniqueness of IHI

EAL (English as an Additional Language)

The schedule is designed so that children are exposed to English daily. Through games and other activities, we aim to familiarize children with English, develop their ability to listen, and help them acquire English skills that are more similar to native English speakers. It is assumed that children need more than 2,000 hours of English input to be able to understand native English speakers and use English freely. At IHI we are increasing this input. We have many international exchange hours with various guests from overseas.

Combined Classrooms

Students learn by helping each other, sharing what they have learned and their experiences with friends who have different personalities, grades, and learning situations from their own. By so doing, they learn practical communication skills, the ability to cooperate, and love, which are necessary in the real world.

Discovery Day

Every other Friday, we offer a Discovery Day to help children develop their own interests and learn on their own, all while having fun at the same time. Children go beyond boundaries of curriculum guidelines and engage in sports, art, as well as sewing clothes with a sewing machine. Some children borrow books from the library to delve into subjects related to their dreams for the future. At the day’s end, they compose essays about what they have learned and give presentations in front of their friends, developing presentation skills.
